CONNECTING THE THINKPAD TO A PS/2 COMPUTER After making the appropriate hardware cable connections, these applications will allow you to share files and printers with a PS/2* computer. There are two ways to connect the ThinkPad* to a PS/2 computer and transfer information: 1. Use a cable (serial or parallel) 2. Make a connection through a modem and telephone line h h h h/ hG h h* h C L C C C/ C CG XI C C- K C XfS*18 L䷵B::` MiniText: :t!eDkt Q PSg[ PS! INSTALLING THE TPF CARD To install the TPF card which contains the PenPoint Operating System boot storage device: 1. Ensure the computer is off. 2. Open the cover of the TPF compartment. 3. Firmly push TPF card into the PCMCIA slot 1. Note: 1) The TPF card only fits one way. If the card does not go in all the way, remove it and turn it over. 2) TPF Operating System pre-installed in the card must always be inserted into slot 1. Inserting in the other slot (slot 2 and slot 3) does not allow loading the Operating System from a TPF card. 4. Close the TPF compartment cover back into position. To use TPF as auxiliary storage device, you may insert the TPF card in slot 2 or slot 3. Insertion and Removal for this TPF card can be made without turning off the computer power. It allows you to do when the system is powered on. REMOVING THE TPF CARD To remove the TPF card inserted in slot 1: 1. Ensure the ThinkPad* computer power is turned off. 2. Open the cover of the TPF compartment. You will see PCMCIA slot Number 1. TPF in this slot contains the operating system files. 3. Remove the TPF cards by pushing firmly the removable button located next to the slot. 4. Close the TPF compartment cover back into position. Note: You may remove the TPF card inserted in slot 2 and slot 3 without turning off the power. These slots are used for containing data files. Warning: REMOVING THE TPF CARD LOCATED IN SLOT 1 WHEN THE POWER IS ON WILL CAUSE THE UNPREDICTABLE RESULT. MAINTAINING THE TPF CARD The TPF card will give you long and reliable service if you follow these guidelines. o Do not store the cards at temperatures below - 20 degrees C or above 85 degrees C (- 4 degrees F to 185 degrees F). o Keep it dry. o Do not bend it. WEAR LEVELING To ensure a long life of service from your ThinkPad File (TPF) cards, the ThinkPad* computer runs a wear-leveling process. This process ensures that frequently used TPF sectors are exchanged with infrequently used sectors so that the TPF card wears evenly. Wear leveling occurs automatically if necessary, when you turn on your computer. When the ThinkPad computer is wear leveling the TPF card, the time the system takes to turn on increases by 8 to 20 seconds. The process may be initiated manually from the ThinkPad Diagnostic program on Easy Setup menu which is initiated by holding Suspend/Resume switch while power switch is o n. At the ThinkPad Easy-Setup Menu, insert the TPF card to the available PCMCIA slot. Then, select the Test icon. Tap the PCMCIA slot icon to run the diagnostics. This will automatically initiate the Wear leveling process applied to the TPF card inserted in the selected slot. Wear leveling process is also performed automatically if necessary when the ThinkPad computer is set to standby mode by pressing Suspend/Resume switch. Warning: Pressing the reset button, removing the TPF card, or removing the battery while the wear-leveling process is performed on the TPF card could damage your computer. hz ho h ha hh 3zd h a xWo h h h _ Cz 6 C Co C<_ C Xf$ CORKBDCD:f* DOCSTATE.RESDOCSTATE.RESEFG:E; "L, p x3z 1 $Y4aaF"Ek; X@Q PASA** j Q PAS)p!eN [ Q PSAZ C RSZ RSe 6O^ x3z 1e\\ t"eDNkt Q PSgt!eDkt Q PSg[ PS! Use this blank pad to practice resizing: l. Touch the corner with the pen. It will get darker and larger to let you know that you have "grabbed" it. 2. Once you've got it, drag the corner (with the pen still touching the screen) until the pad is the size you want. 3. Lift the pen. When you're done, tap on the Close Corner at the upper left to close this document.NXQhWXXh^:XXhsX=h?zXhX h h S X> x 80e,[V4n!Ʃ2 PSP6MiniText > x 80e'OS[V4n!Ʃ2 PSP6 MiniNote. n.. nDOCSTATERES :EI EI pp@ @Sp C RS x 3$OS OS Z @ @SZ @Se ZR x 1eeKV4n!Ʃ PS x 3eKO tO!e D kt Q PSgtO!e @ kt Q PSgK PS[ kFO1 x <5<k; X@Q PASAMiniNote[ x j Q PAS!p NO x e@?[ Q PSA3zWhX_k7 ^gDrag toj )k7 ^gResize{= "^Pߌؖݖ
