@section Software Installation

The Release 4 networking software is loaded in the distribution band
and does not require a separate installation or enabling procedure.

@subsection Installing Sources and Options

The networking software source directory @l("SYS:NETWORK;")
is provided with the @i(``Release 4 Sources Tape'').

The Site Editor utility is provided on the @i(``Release 4 Options Tape'').

@subsection Upgrading TCP-only Lambdas

The most direct way to upgrade each Lambda at your site
is to restore the @i(``Release 4 Band/Microcode Tape'') on each system.
But to upgrade a Lambda that does not have a tape drive,
you must use the network.

System managers upgrading to Release 4
on Lambdas which contain only the Excelan hardware interface should 
see Section @ref[section-tcp-disk-compatibility], @nameref[section-tcp-disk-compatibility],
for information on communicating between Release 3 and Release 4 DISK servers.
The special procedure documented in that section is required in order
to use TCP/IP to copy partitions between a Release 3 Lambda and a Release 4 Lambda.

The procedure below is a third alternative;
it will work only if the system host contains an Excelan board and a tape drive.

Save a Release 4 band on the system host with updated site files.

Reboot the system host on Release 3.

Run @l(si:copy-disk-partition) and copy the updated Release 4 band from the system host
to each Lambda running Release 3 TCP/IP.
