It is written in MBASIC. The users manual is the squeezed file KIDMATH.UQ. I had uld load right up. The manual also has some interesting suggestions as to how the program may be used to test the ability of the learner. A suggestion if you want to save the manual in a nice three ring binder. Load up the file, KIDMATH.UM, and to squeeze it to get the whole program on one disk. It is a squeezed Wordstar file, and it uses BOLDFACING and UNDERSCORING, so it might not print out properly using the print option from NSWEEP or a similar program unless you have a switch on your pat the top of the first page type .PO 13 and save the file. Load your printer with tractor feed paper and print out the odd number pages one at a time. This is done by using the START AT PAGE NUMBER and STOP AT PAGE NUMBER options in the print optiorinter to defeat control codes sent to the printer. My best suggestion would be to unsqueeze it to another disk and print it out using Wordstar. When you have a printed out users manual, sweep the rest of the files to another disk and sweep MBASIC in ns section of Wordstar. (EXAMPLE) START AT PAGE NUMBER (1) STOP AFTER AT PAGE NUMBER (1) It requires you to select one page at a time but it will print out all the odd pages offset to the right margi place of the users manual file. You should now have a fully self contained working disk. There are instructions in the users manual as to how to use DU to patch the working disk to automatically boot up the program. DU is included on the disk fn. After the first printout you can bring the filename to the screen by entering ^R when it asks for the name of the file to print. When the odd number pages are done, reload the file and replace the .PO 13 with .PO 1. Resave the file. Reverse the tractor feed paper so it will print out on the back side and redo the printout, this time selecting the even pages. The result will be the instructions printed to the outside of the page away from the holes. It looks great and there is no worry abo tested, but from looking at them carefully, the people who submitted them seem to know what they are talking about. If you encounter any problems or if you come up with some great changes to improve the performance of these programs, please contaut punching out some of the text when you punch the binder holes. If you encounter any problems or if you come up with some great changes to improve the performance of these programs, please contact the FOG offices or Doug Hurst and let us know abct the FOG offices and let us know about it. Applications Disk Library Prepared by Walt Beaudry, January 31, 1985 -FOG/EX1.023 DA.COM, from Eric Meyer, is a utility which allows easy manipulation of the directory attributout it. -FOG/APP.052 This disk contains two sets of programs to allow you to configure the output of your Wordstar program for either the DIABLO or the NEC 8023 printer. The files with the DIABLO name are obviously all for tes of files under CP/M 3.0 (and to a more limited extent for CP/M 2.2). These attributes: System, Archive, Read-only and the four user-definable selections, are useful in certain applications such as backing up disk files. This program allows you to he DIABLO, but what might not be so obvious is that the two PAGE files also go with the DIABLO. All of the other files are for the NEC 8023. Complete instructions on how to use these programs are given in their respective DOC files. The big file foset, un- set and check the setting of the attributes for any or all files. Complete documentation is provided in the squeezed DA.DQC documentation file. ETERM.COM, another Eric Meyer creation, is a simple terminal program which is very small, fast r the NEC (WSNECSCI.DOC) had to be squeezed to get it on the disk. To print it out use one of the NSWEEP or similar programs to unsqueeze it and print it out using Wordstar. I do not have access to either of these printers so these have not been and useful in some circumstances for conversational environments, such as online conferences found on CompuServe and elsewhere. The distinguishing feature is that ETERM allows you to type and edit a complete line before it is sent, while allowing si multaneous reception of incoming text. It takes getting used to, but works well and has unique capabilities. Documentation is provided in the squeezed ETERM.DQC file. EXAUTO.AQM is a squeezed assembly-language file from Guy Gamble which is designem undisturbed. Complete documentation may be found in the squeezed HP+.DQC file. M730EXCP.COM is a long-awaited contribution from Sean Collins. This is a version of MODEM730 which is compatible with the Osborne COMM-PAC modem running on the Execud to replace the EXECST.COM program supplied by OCC. EXAUTO will give you the ability to run any program you wish automatically upon boot-up of the Executive without first displaying the OCC sign-on logo. After unsqueezing the file, print it out, as ttive. New features added to the standard MODEM7 commands allow you to set the number of bits in a word, the parity and number of stop bits, and the number of rings on which to answer in auto- answer mode. The squeezed overlay, M730EXCP.AQM, is claimedhe instructions for modification and compilation are included in comment lines at the beginning of the file. HP+.COM, yet another program from Eric Meyer, is a small, integer-only calculator program. Two versions are supplied on this disk, HP.COM to work on the MDM740.COM native file as well as the pre-installed MDM730 version on this disk, but I have not tested that claim. Note that this overlay will corrupt your MDM7xx.COM native file (it modifies some additional locations not addressed by , which will run on the Executive or Osborne 1 from the CP/M command prompt, and HP+.COM, a special Executive-only version which can be placed into memory and called up when needed from within virtually any other program (a mini-Sidekick, as it wereother overlays), so be sure to work from a backup copy of MDM7xx.COM when performing the overlay process yourself. The M730EXCP.COM file is ready to run, and documentation on this special version is in the squeezed M730EXCP.DQC file. Note that the co). The program is most useful to programmers, as it will handle integer values only, but it will operate in, and convert to and from decimal, hexadecimal, binary and character formats. When entered or exited, HP+ will leave the original running programplete MODEM7 documentation is not supplied on this disk, but the latest version may be found on the -FOG/EX1.020 disk, along with MDM740.COM, MDMLINK, M7FNK and other supporting files. I know many people have been waiting for this modification, and a lso know how hard Sean worked on it, and am grateful for his effort; it works very well. VDE-2CE.COM is a new version of the famous (and fabulous) VDO-EX text editor originally written by George Peace. This version comes from Eric Meyer, and is sr program. In one mostly-automatic operation, the following changes are made to Wordstar: -- Eliminates the Wordstar signon logo -- Does not display the MicroPro message -- Patches Wordstar to use the Exec BIOS for the printer ignificantly enhanced, while adding only 1K to the original 5K file size. (Note that an Osborne 1/Vixen version, VDE-2C, has been released and should show up in the appropriate section of the FOG library.) Several bug fixes and changes have been made, busy and print output -- Sets the cursor keys to Wordstar mode upon entry and restores them to CP/M mode upon exit from Wordstar -- Sets the 10 function keys to a collection chosen by the author (changeable by editing and a few of the new features are: word wrap, variable right margin, reformat, a "change" function to do replacements, and a "zip" function to do multiple repeats of a command string (you can use this function combined with Find to do a find-and- rep the .ASM file), and restores your original function key set upon return to CP/M -- Logs to the B drive -- Displays the patch version upon signon Complete instructions for performing the modification (using the SUBMIT fulace). The cursor movement is now faster, the help screen has been revised, and memory space remaining is displayed when a document is loaded. In short, this is a significant and useful improvement to the original program. Squeezed source code is in Vnction) are provided in the squeezed documentation file WSEXPAT.DQC. Editing of the squeezed .AQM file and assembly with MAC are required if you wish to change the various modifications to suit your needs. I have tested the original version and my ownDE-2C.AQM. Squeezed documentation is provided in VDE-2C.DQC for this version; for more information on the VDO program, see -FOG/EX1.018. WSEXPAT is a very useful routine from Dave Campbell to make a one-time modification to the Executive's Wordsta custom hard- disk version; both have functioned as advertised. Squeezed files (those with a Q as the middle letter of the filetype) can be unsqueezed using NSWP205, on -FOG/EX1.017. Games Disk Library Prepared by Bob Carter, December 1984 ************************************************** That completes the synopsis of new library disks ifrom each of these new library disks: -FOG/APP.053 & .054 These two disks (.053 and .054) contain a complete program that allows you to keep complete records (as required by the IRS as of January 1985) of all the expenses associated with one or more vehicles associated with your business. They are written in PERSONAL PEARL, so they will require a copy of pearl version 1.02 or later to use this program. It is a very extensive program that appears to cover all ttwo .DOC files, (README.1ST and TAXTMPL.DOC). They are in Wordstar format and should print right out. In particular, please read the second from the last paragraph on page 4 of the TAXTMPL.DOC file for instructions on how to set the original bhe records the IRS insists you keep to be able to deduct the expenses associated with the vehicles used with your business. For instructions on how to run this program, please print out the file README.1ST, found on FOG/APP.053. Ilank templates to R/O status on the disk so that you will not accidently overwrite them and maybe mess something up. I am putting them in the library already in R/O status, but there is no guarantee that they will still be in that status bt is a Wordstar file that makes extensive use of boldface and underscore features, so if your printer doesn't support these, it might be wise to borrow one that does. Jason has indicated a willingness to support this program, so if y the time they get to you. As explained on page 2 of this file, as the templates now stand they should work with all CP/M versions of Supercalc. Once they are saved with a later version than 1.05 they will not work again with an earlier you have any questions or problems with it, please contact him at the address listed in the document file or through the FOG offices. -FOG/APP.055 & .056 These two disks contain the tax templates written in Supercalc version. The instructions are fairly clear, but several points should perhaps be reinforced. You only enter data where there is a ?. In these cells the question mark is either left alone, (in which case it is ignored), or overwritten. There to allow you to compute your taxes for the past tax year (1984). It is a truly massive amount of work done by Ed Smith to upgrade the original tax templates done by John Olson of Anchorage, Alaska. To run the programs, please see the are some areas (an example is where it asks for your filing status) where you do not try to put an entry in the place where you would normally put an X on your tax form. This part of the template was inserted simply to make it look as close to the original form as possible. Also, when you finish filling in each form, be sure to manually recalculate until the final answer settles down and no longer changes. Some of the forms have pretty complex calculations and it will take 2 or m to run the program to generate the code, then exit, run dBase to test your program and go back and forth until you get it the way you want it. This program (dScreen), uses dBase itself to generate the appropriate code and you can test it out imore re-calculations to get the final line correct. Also, please note that most of the forms will require more than 80 columns to print out, so you would probably be better off setting your printer to 132 column mode at the start. The templatemediately all from within dBase. The only limits it seems to have are that it accepts one field per line of screen input and you would have to go in manually and modify the code to be able to control direct screen addressing. Also, as explained s are all supposed to be in Supercalc version 1.05. However some of the templates appear to have been saved under version 1.12. This means that you will have to have version 1.12 or later to run the entire package. If you have any problems,in the document file, since one field entry takes up one line on the screen when you are setting things up, when you get to about line 24 on the screen, which would correspond to about 22 fields in the record, the screen doesn't always beha or find any bugs in these templates, please let FOG, myself, or Ed Smith know about it so we can make the appropriate corrections and get these corrections sent out to people who will be using these templates. -FOG/APP.ve. You can still continue to add more fields to your DBF file, but you have to be very careful about how you enter things since they might not be as they appear on the screen. For complete instructions on how to run this program please print 057 & .058 These two disks (.057 and .058) were submitted by Mark Scaramella and represent a very interesting new approach to a program generator using dBase II. If you have ever used a program like Quickscreen, you will know that you haveout dSCREEN.DOC. It is a Wordstar file and should print out perfectly to a 29 page manual. dSCREEN.BAK is the original document file. It is not in Wordstar mode (eg. it can be printed out with the TYPE command from the system) but the pa ge breaks don't fall in all the right places and it will print a couple of the pages over the perforations. This program represents a truly radical approach to dBase code generators, and some later version might turn out to be the hot item forogo" when you first start the program. You must supply DDT.COM which came with your program disks and EX14.COM which is available on FOGUTL#037 disk. The documentation is complete in WSFAST16.DOC.
